Why we renovated our 1971 Travel Trailer

We were gifted this cute 1971 travel trailer when Will was in transition from his long time job. To brainstorm what we could do with our new gem we went to the happiest place on earth — our beach in Cardiff, California.

I'm a big believer that everything has a why behind it and this was no different.

As we soaked in the sun I  asked him things that I ask in my 1:1 soulpreneur mentor sessions to get an idea of where he was currently at and what he really wanted.

He’s always been a big coffee guy, which works out in my favor because I always wake up to a really good cup of joe. I remember on one of our first dinner dates he told me he had a dream of opening up a coffee shop— and he already had a name.

From our chat on the beach we started to move forward in creating a coffee truck— with our own little spin. A few weeks had gone by and Will had already gutted the trailer and was thick into the paperwork of starting a business.

The part I didn’t mention was that I had a dream and vision too. It was one from our first summer together. We went to the beach from sun up to sun down almost every weekend (with a little Mexico and travel in between). As I soaked up the sun and watched Will surf I always noticed vans, motorhomes and trailers parked at our beach that would stay for the entire day. I remember thinking “that will be us someday”.

I wanted a mini beachfront home that I could share with my love and my family.

When I mentioned this to Will he stopped in his tracks, I remember his face when he asked if he should stop the renovation. I felt bad because he had already put in so much work and effort. I also didn’t want to crush his dream of being an entrepreneur. This led to another chat which focused on core values.

Core Values is something else I focus on in my mentorship program and I think it is important to remember that these can change from time to time but more than likely the value will still remain in the same category. For Example— I identified one of my Core Values early on as “Travel” however, when I recently went back through my core values I felt as though “Adventure” was more fitting.

While I love to travel I don't think it is always necessary to travel far to experience the feeling of adventure, and that’s what I love— the feeling of adventure.

This leads me back to the trailer. I enjoy getting on a plane so very much— and I also know how much I love coming home after traveling. I think we live in the best spot ever and while we have talked about moving to another country like Mexico or Indonesia, San Diego has my heart.

Mid renovation we made a decision to keep this cute little trailer for ourselves, for more Team Awesome Adventures— We named her Luna!
